Most groups who have never made the journey opt for Scotland first time around. This is probably due to the allure and mystique of the Old Course at St Andrews. In addition, it has other high profile Open Championship venues that can be played, and which make possible a dazzling itinerary of courses that will be seen on television for years to come. Ireland’s best courses are in no way inferior, many having been designed by the same architects responsible for the Scottish courses during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Both countries are beautifully scenic and Ireland may just have the edge on evening relaxation with its many small-town pubs offering live music.
